Show Who's Un-American Now? Dear Editor: ThPClC (Citizen's Information award for the phoniest piece or nrooaganda that has been perorated per-orated on the reading public tS year. Mr. Hammond would do well to have the words of the bulletin set to music . under the title "Inneuendo in Three Quarter Quar-ter Time." would then at least worthy of serious consideration considera-tion as a musical comedy. FIRST OF ALL, it should be known that CIC is not a government govern-ment agency, but rather a front for the John Birch Society. Secondly, Sec-ondly, it should be known that jn spite of their accusations against Frank Wilkinson it has never been proven in a court of law that Mr. Wilkinson is a Communist and my understanding of the American legal system is that a man is innocent until proven prov-en guilty. Third, the CIC has made an obvious' attempt to slander Dr. Francis Wormuth who is probably prob-ably this University's foremost authority on the American Constitution. Con-stitution. THE EMERGENCY Civil Liberties Lib-erties Committee, of which Dr. Wormuth is a member, has been engaged since 1951 in defending people in Civil Liberty cases, particularly those involving the First Amendment and the "Equal Protection" clause of the Fourteenth Four-teenth Amendmant. It is true that ECIE has defended de-fended people who were accused of being "Communist" as CIC and Mr. Hammond so graciously pointed out. However, what they failed to mention is that ECIC has also defended many non-communists and even right-wingers (for example, George Lincoln Rockwell Rock-well of the American Nazi Party.) ECIC has also defended many Negroes in segregation cases, but of course this is "un-American." Sincerely, L. Hyrum Coon Campus Americans for Democratic Action Birchers Distastful Dear Editor: Last week Birch Coordinator Reed Benson wrote the Governor and Board of Regents in an effort ef-fort to prevent the on-campus appearance of a speaker whose views Benson dislikes (Frank Wilkinson). THIS IS ONE of the things which makes Birchers so distasteful dis-tasteful to most Americans: The Birchers want to do the thinking for all the rest of us and then deny us the opportunity to hear any other side. Benson paid all of us at the University the crowning insult in what he tried to do: That we are not mature enough to make up our minds on a controversial subject. sub-ject. Sincerely, J. D.
