High on a building ledge a terrorised man stands alone, preparing to jump. Edging toward him is a kind, patient policeman. The policeman speaks to the man; he reasons with him. Finally the man follows the policeman back into the room. The man is civilization with the ledge being be-ing his destruction through the ravages of war. The kind policeman po-liceman is like the United Nations Na-tions the best hope 'for human-I human-I ity. The nets are civil defense j Today, as the story states, the world seems to have one big fight man versus destruction. It seems to me the only way to help man win this battle is to have understanding and agreement agree-ment between the countries of this world in which man dwells the present medium being the United Nations. The UN has many problems to solve. The biggest one is finding peace for the world. To me then, the United Nations means patience, courage, and hard work to attain at-tain the goal of peace. The nations of the UN have provided methods of solving their many other problems. Special committees solve education, educa-tion, health, trade and low standards of living problems so to me the UN means heln for. nations who have great problems prob-lems to be ironed out. The United Nations is a light to me and all the world in this time of worry and indecision. It is a hope 'for a democratic peace; it is understanding. It shows me that I must be patient pa-tient and courageous that I must have faith in God. Now, as the policeman led the man back from the edge of destruction, the United Nations, through planning ways to use destructive energy for peaceful purposes, is leading civilization back toward peace. |
