Show C A P OFFICERS VISIT MILFORD HIGH: SEEK PATROL UNIT HERE By Palsy Fowles A very interested subject was presented to the Milford High School student body at a 1 p. m. assembly, Wednesday afternoon, when Captain Goering, Second Lieutenant Heath and Technical Sergeant Nebeker, of the Civil Air Patrol, visited the high school. They discussed many important highlights on aviation. High school students between the ages of 15 and 18 years, of above average scholarship, may take ground work and pre-flight training under CAP sponsorship, sponsor-ship, the army officers pointed out. Students would work 175 hours each year on the high school and college level. The equipment necessary for training train-ing CAP students is furnished by the Army Air Force. Also, a two-week summer encampment course is open to boy or girl members of the organization. Credit will be given for time spent in this air program, and outstanding students will receive scholarships entitling the recipient recip-ient to one solo and one private license flight training. This program is open to any student in the required age bracket, with instruction being given at the local airport. Parents' Par-ents' permission is necessary before be-fore minor children may be enrolled. The instruction is ad vantageous in giving practical demonstration in mathematics. If there are enough students interested in this work, more than one squadron will be organized. or-ganized. Advantages offered to girl enlistees are training for nurses and hostesses. Lieutenant Heath told of a very interesting incident when he was taking training in the CAP program. They took some of the men into a room where there was a large map painted on the floor. The men sat in what i was like a cockpit and when a light showed up a certain point on the floor map, they dropped mock bombs. The CAP also j sponsors dances and parties. During the summer encampment encamp-ment previously mentioned, they have Canadian Cadets visit and explore American aviation, and also the American Cadets visit the Canadian encampment. All in all, this must be an interesting in-teresting adventure. |
