Show Whitefish prove popularity at Bear Lake Bear Lake has attracted several sev-eral thousand fishermen to its shores the past two weeks for the annual spawning run of Bonneville Cisco and although this unique type of fishing has ended there is still ample opportunity op-portunity to pick up a few whitefish or even an occassional occassion-al trout by jigging with a lure or small fly through the ice. Whitfish follow the Cisco into in-to the shores to feed on the Cisco eggs and with the lake being covered with ice, anglers are enjoying another different type of fishing by jigging through the ice. The most common method used to take whitfish is to cut a small hole; six to twelve inches, in-ches, in the ice and jig the lure or fly up and down. A short rod can be used or the line can be held in the hand. The fish are easier to see If the angler will lie on a cover on the ice and put a second cover cov-er over his head to cut out the light. |
