Show Mapleton News Mrs. Blake Everett Mr. M. F. Miner was guest of honor at a birthday dinner given by his daughter, Mrs. Vanda Jensen, Sunday, April 23. It was Mr. Miner's 94th birthday. Guests included his wife and son, Ron; his sister, Mrs. Ruth Bennion, Emily Miner Mi-ner and Emma Whitmore of Salt Lake and Ellen Anderson of Springville. Jaycee meeting was held re- puTith; af tVio fmvn hall with president Loris (Dutch) Diamond Dia-mond conducting. Nominations for president during the year 67' and 68' were held with Jesse Jes-se Warren and Roger Hutch-ings Hutch-ings being the two candidates selected. They will be voted on at the next meeting. Speaker of the evening was state vice president, Rod Beckstead. Thirteen Thir-teen members were present. Mark Jensen, five year old son of Mr .and Mrs. Duane Jensen, Jen-sen, who was seriously injured several weeks ago when he was struck by a car, was released from the hospital last Thursday. Thurs-day. He is reported to be making mak-ing a very good recovery at his home. Mark spent almost a month at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake. He was unconscious much of the time, having suf- fered a severe blow on the head when he was hit. He also has a broken leg. Doctors feel that he will make a full recovery. re-covery. Mrs. Ella Edmunds was hostess hos-tess to a very charming visitor visit-or from the Philippine Islands last week. Mrs. Lacayenta, whose husband is district president pres-ident of the LDS Church in the Philippine Islands, spent a day visiting with friends and relatives rela-tives in this area. Mrs. Edmunds Ed-munds took her on a tour of the BYU campus, and to visit some of the ex-missionaries etc. who live in Provo. Mary Ellen Edmunds knew this family very well when she was on her mission in that country. Mrs. Lacayenta said the highlights of her day was being able to attend Relief Society with Mrs. Edmunds in Mapleton Third Ward. She said the same sweet spirit can be found in these meetings no matter where one goes. She is a registered CPA and the mother of seven children. chil-dren. Mr. Lacayenta was chosen chos-en as a delegate to the meeting of the World Bank Association in Washington D.C., to represent repre-sent the Philippine Islands. He is a chemical engineer. Mrs. Lacayenta joined her husband in the nation's capital last week. The Lions Club held their regular meeting at the Polynesian Poly-nesian Kitchen in Provo last week. Mr .and Mrs Parry Harrison Har-rison and Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Thompson were in charge of the meeting. Mr. Harrison showed films of Flaming Gorge Dam and Porter Leavitt entertained with music on his harp. A good crowd attended. A Jaycee meeting- for the Central Utah District was held at the town hall in Mapleton, April 18. Roger Hutchings first vice president of the Mapleton club conducted the meeting and Paul Dibble's color group made arrangements for the evening. Five candidates for state offices of-fices were present. These men were all from the northern part of the state. State president, Bennie Williams, also paid an unexpected visit to the meeting. meet-ing. There were 88 members present. |
