Show Legislator hits commission ruling on parallel parking in some areas permitting .cities to regulate the parking as they would desire de-sire it. "We further feel that the Commission policy is too rigid and unflexible for the common good of all Utah citizens. You could create a better public spirit in your behalf by compromising com-promising on certain issues. "We urge your cooperation in this matter." After trying out parallel parking in Springville and believing be-lieving it to be a detriment to business on Main Street and more dangerous to motorists, the city council ordered angle parking which is still in effect. Featured Mrs. Ella Reynolds of this city, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday, was the subject sub-ject of a full page feature story in the Church Section of the Deseret News, Saturday evening. In connection with a picture of Mrs Reynolds, was a story setting forth some of her accomplishments, ac-complishments, together with interesting notes from her early history and childhood days in Springville. A policy initiated by the State Road Commission requiring requir-ing parallel parking on roads receiving federal aid as secondary second-ary highways, has been termed by Marvin F. Warren, state representative, as "too rigid and unflexible for the common good of all Utah citizens." Rep. Warren, Majority Whip in the House, in a letter to Weston Hamilton, chairman of the State Road Commission, stated: "We, who are in favor of angle parking in the .communities .commun-ities of Springville, Spanish Fork and Nephi would like to propose a solution. We would request that our State Road Commission adopt angle parking park-ing regulations for urban sections sec-tions of our highway system similar to the Idaho regulation which permits angle parking on streets of ample width. In the State of Utah we would recommend that the Road Commission permit angle parking park-ing in cities with streets of 90 feet width or more with four lanes of through traffic and less than 9000 cars per day. To our knowledge - this regulation would only affect four cities: Nephi, Springville, Spanish Fork and Delta. "If the Commission does not feel this is fair, then legislation legisla-tion will be proposed to amend 41-6-104-C of the Utah Code |
