Show Rites Saturday for Peter Nielsen Funeral services will be held Saturday - at 1 p.m. in the Third-Ninth Ward Church, for Peter Nielson, 84, well-known LDS Church worker, who died Wednesday, January 5, 1966, at the family residence, 94 W. . : . . - vi ; ' j vi . .... I Lm.u First No., after a long illness. Bishop T. Melvin Haymond of the Ninth Ward will be in charge. Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday before be-fore the services. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Nielson was born in Copenhagen, Co-penhagen, Denmark, June 7, 1881, a son of Axel and Anna Sophia Larsen. He came to this country as a boy and the family settled in Elsinore. He operated a flour mill with his father at Elsinore, later going to Loa and then to Richfield in the same business. In 1928, he came to Springville, where he owned and operated a flour mill for a number of years. ; While in Richfield, he took an active part civically and served as city councilman there He was particularly instrumental instrumen-tal in getting the swimming pool on a free basis for the community. He was also a member of the Commercial Club, a business organization there. He was active in politics both in Richfield and during his life time here, holding many of the offices in the Republican Re-publican party on a local level. He was bishop of the Third j Ward before the wards were divided and previously served as a counselor to two bishops in Richfield. He had been a Sunday School teacher, a high councilor and a stake missionary. mission-ary. He had also served as patriarch pa-triarch in the Springville Stake and in Kolob Stake before the stakes were divided. He was genealogy leader for a number of years and did extensive temple tem-ple work. His wife Edna Snow Nielson. whom he married June 6. 1906. in the Salt Lake Temple, died Novembr 13, 1965. Surviving are eight sons and daughters: Reed S. Nielson of Sparks, Nevada; J. Lloyd Nielson, Niel-son, San Jose, Calif.; Mae Nielson, Niel-son, Springville; Mrs. W. C. (Loya) Lewis, Chicago, 111.; Mrs. James H. (Bemiece) Duncan, Chula Vista, Calif.; Mrs. Geraldine Atkinson, Saiu Rosa, Calif.; Mrs. Davie (Elaine) Green, Tucson, Ariz Mrs. Ovando (Edna) GuKe: La Verne, Utah; 17 grandchildren; grandchild-ren; five great grandchildrei a brother, Victor Nielson, Let Angeles, Calif. |
