Show Eleven of Utah bird species may be killed Only eleven of Utah's many different species of birds are "fair game" for off-season plinkers looking for moving targets, Department of Fish and Game spokesmen reminded sportsmen today. These are the Starling, Crow, Raven, Magpie, English Sparrow, Spar-row, Jay Blackbird, Sharp- Shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Goshawk and Prairie Falcon or Bullet Hawk. However, we wish to remind anyone shooting birds to be sure and know the kind of bird that they shoot. All other species of birds are protected. This includes all owls and eagles. Jackrabbits and cottontail rabbits are unprotected, as are most varmints such as badgers and porcupines. Other larger species are also unprotected and may be hunted hunt-ed any time. These include coyote, coy-ote, bobcat and cougars or mountain lion. |
