Show Church outlines pageant dates The 1965 Hill Cumorah Pageant Pag-eant will be presented July 27-31, 27-31, near Palmyra, N.Y., the First Presidency of the LDS Church announced this week. Now featuring a cast of 300, spectacular lighting and a dramatic dra-matic musical setting, the presentation began in 1937. Crowds estimated at more than 100,000 attended during the five night season in 1954. Requests from travel agencies, agen-cies, charter tour groups and families planning to visit the New York World's Fair and "Historic Mormon Country" sites near Palmyra led to the early announcement of the 1965 season. In 13 colorful scenes, the Pageant depicts historical ex-erpts ex-erpts from the Book of Mormon, Mor-mon, a scriptural record of ancient an-cient America. A sloping hillside is used for the stage, with the audience seated at the bottom Pageant sponsors are the Cumorah Mission of the church with headquarters at nearby Rochester, N. Y. Director is Dr. Harold I. Hansen, and the musical score is by Dr. Crawford Craw-ford Gates. |
