Show Fishing in high country begins With the July 4th holiday coming up, the department of fish and game issued a report this week on access conditions to the high elevation waters of Utah. 1 The Boulder Mountain lakes are all open, the snow is gone and roads are in fair to good condition. Those planning a fourth-of-July outing in this Southern. Utah area should have no problems. However, the report brings out, the Manti Mountain area is still somewhat inaccessable. Lingering Ling-ering snow drifts will present some problem to travel especially es-pecially along the Skyline Drive. Most waters are open now but getting to them is the problem. The Uinta Mountains, which normally draw the bulk of the refugees from the summer heat over the July 4th holiday, will offer plenty of cool weather wea-ther this year. The recent department de-partment survey shows a definite def-inite "snow line" at just slightly above 10,000 feet. While lakes' at this elevation or lower ' are beginning to un-thaw, un-thaw, everything above is still wintered in. In fact, the department de-partment advises that snow has not been gone from any of this country long enough yet for any grass to have grown in case you are wondering about feed for horses. As to stream conditions, the department report says all waters wa-ters flowing down from the Uintas are high and turbid and with the amount of snow still .in the high country, will continue so for another two or three weeks. Roads, generally gen-erally are in good condition up most of the canyons and the lakes at the lower elevations eleva-tions are producing fair to good fishing so all isn't lost. Anyone desiring to head for the hills over the Fourth should keep these conditions in mind and plan accordingly. The United States and the Soviet Union have announced a cut back in the production of fissionable materials. It is hoped this move will reduce cold war tensions but apparently appar-ently will not reduce the ability abil-ity of either to wage a nuclear war. The President announced that during the coming fiscal year production of enriched uranium would be reduced 25 per cent. |
