' ' i - .' i " ! j A f v Springville man, family safe in earthquake zone Other Springville people living liv-ing in the earthquake area in Alaska, are reported safe, according ac-cording to word received by relatives this week. Howard Beardall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Beardall of Springville and his wife, the former Lorna Osborne, and two children, were all in the quake zone and the town of Whittier, Alaska, in which they resided, was demolished. Howard is working at Whittier Whit-tier for the Union Oil Company Com-pany and the huge oil tanks all caught fire from the quake. His parents, of Springville, saw pictures of the fires at Whittier and heard through newspapers, that Whittier was badly damaged but no word came through concerning their son and his family, until Sunday Sun-day night,' when a ham radio operator reported that all employees em-ployees of the Union Oil Company Com-pany and their families were safe. On Monday, the Beardalls received a letter from their daughter-in-law, who described the destruction. She said she and their two children had gone by train to Anchorage to shop and visit her parents (her father is a mechanic with the Air Force stationed at Anchorage). An-chorage). A landslide however marooned the train before its arrival in Anchorage and Haward with others was taken by helicopter back to Whittier. The letter Monday, stated that Mrs. Beardall is at her parent's address, Star Rt. A, Box 630 in Anchorage, the site of which was not damaged dam-aged by the quake, and Howard How-ard is at Whittier guarding the burning oil tanks. |
