Show r i Mrs. Jean J. Ashby, for whom an open house is planned for her 80th birthday, birth-day, Sunday. Open house set to honor Mrs. Jean Ashby Friends and relatives are invited in-vited to attend an open house honoring Mrs. Jean J. Ashby, on the occasion of her 80th birthday, Sunday, January 26, from 2 until 6 p.m., at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Watts, 715 South Second East. A resident of Springville since 1943, Mrs. Ashby was born in Leamington, Millard County, to John Peter and Catherine Hjorkman Johnson. She attended schools in Leamington Leam-ington and was married to Nathaniel Na-thaniel Ashby, November 27, 1901,' in the Manti LDS Temple. Mr. Ashby passed away in July 1948. Mrs. Ashby has always been active in LDS Church work. She served as Sunday School teacher many years and is presently president of her class. She is also a Relief Society So-ciety teacher in which capacity she has served a long time. For many years, she was president of the Primary organization and has also been MIA president presi-dent and secretary of the Relief Re-lief Society; also theology class leader. She and her husband did considerable temple work before his death, in the St. George and Mesa, Ariz, temples. tem-ples. Mrs. Ashby was voted "Mother "Mo-ther of the Year" in Springville Spring-ville in 1960. She has taught ceramic classes and her ceramic cer-amic work has won exhibition prizes, as have other types of her handwork, including sewing. sew-ing. There are seven sons and daughters: Mrs. Roy (Lola) Thompson of Laie, Hawaii; Ev- . anWilliam, Salt Lake City; Mrs. . Roy (Alpha) Nielson, Lynndyl; Roland N. of San Pedro, Calif.; Mrs. Don (Vera) Watts, Mrs. Bert (Julia) Cherrington, of ; Springville; and Lt. Col. Ralph H. Ashby of Mesa, Arizona. ; Three of her 33 grandchildren . are serving LDS Missions. She also has 36 great grandchildren. |
