Show named Outstanding Overall theater contributions recognized Cedar City. Lunt, a sophomore theater major, was nominated as best supporting actor this year for his role as Sir Andrew Aguecheek in "Twelfth Night." The Cedar High School graduate also served as stage manager for campus-community productions of "The Subject Was Roses" and "The Royal Family." Outstanding Con tribution to the Department, Depart-ment, Upper Division-David Division-David McMurtie, for his role as departmental photographer and as prop manager. McMurtie, a 1979 graduate of Cottonwood Cot-tonwood High School, is attending SUSC on a "props assistantship," and will work with the i Utah Shakespearean Festival this summer as a scenic technician. Outstanding Contribution Con-tribution in Scenery and Props Shannon Scruggs for p props for "God-spell," "God-spell," painting and scenery for "The Drunkard" and "Twelfth Night." She will graduate from SUSC with a B.A. in theater arts, planning to pursue a masters in fine arts at the California State Institute of the Arts, Valencia, this fall. Outstanding Contribution Con-tribution in Lighting and SoundTodd Ross, a junior theater major from Sandy, for his work on "Waiting for Godot," "The Subject Was Roses," and "You Can't Take It With You." While at SUSC he has also been honored for contributions in technical theater for last year's "Beauty and the Beast," and for 1979-80 1979-80 production of "Working" and "Dial 'M' for Murder." Outstanding Contribution Con-tribution in costumes and Make-up Debra Caliva, lor her costuming for "Godspell" and "The Royal Family." Caliva, an ASSUSC Senator for students in arts and letters, will design costumes for "The Lion in Winter" next year at SUSC where she will be a senior theater major. Outstanding Contribution Con-tribution to the Department, Depart-ment, Lower Division R. Troy Lunt, son of Mitch and Maureen Lunt, earlier this year. Best Actor Parry Stewart, Payson, for his role as Sir Toby Belch in "Twelfth Night." Stewart is a 1979 graduate of Payson High School where he was voted best actor. The SUSC junior theater major was named best supporting actor last year at SUSC for his portrayal of Charlemagne . in . the musical "Pippin." He will appear as an actor this summer with the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Best Supporting Actress Ac-tress Kathie Markle for her role as Fanny Cavendish in the "The Royal Family." Markle is a 1979 graduate of Moab High School and a transfer student from the College of Eastern Utah where she was nominated as the outstanding freshman. fresh-man. The SUSC junior has toured Utah this year with S U S C ' s Shakespearean Costume Tour. Best Supporting ActorMark Ac-torMark Seeding for his role as Herbert Dean in "The Royal Family." Seeding is a junior theater major at SUSC and a graduate of Amarillo College, Amarillo, Texas, where he was named best actor. He was nominated as best actor this year for his role as Didi in "Waiting for Godot." CEDAR CITY - Rick Dominguez, Las Vegas, has been recognized for overall contribution in theater arts at Southern Utah State College. Dominguez will graduate cum laude from SUSC on Saturday with a B.A. in theater arts. He has signed with the Utah Shakespearean Festival this summer as an actor, then will begin studies at . the Asolo State Theater, Florida State University, this fall. "The award for overall contribution in theater arts isn't given every year, just whenever a student merits the award," said R. Scott Phillips, theater promotions cordinator at SUSC. "Rick is an examplar student, one typifying the caliber of student the theater deparatment award has come to honor." Dominguez, best actor at Las Vegas High School in 1978, won SUSC best actor award in 1980-81 for his role of Lopahin in Chekov's "The Cherry Orchard." He was nominated as best supporting sup-porting actor this year for his role as Malvolio in "Twelfth Night." This spring he directed Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" as part of SUSC's 1981-82 theater season. In addition to his work in the SUSC Theater Department, Dominguez was co-coordinator for the film-discussion series "American Film: The Evolution of the Cinematic Eye" presented winter quarter at SUSC. He assisted with the presentation of a similar film series on European cinema last year at Southern Utah State. Dominguez was presented the SUSC theater award at a recent year-end banquet during which time several additional ad-ditional departmental awards and the 1982-83 SUSC Campus-Community Campus-Community Theater Season announced. The 1982-83 season will begin with a repeat of the Stephen Schwartz musical "Godspell" which played to theater audiences this quarter. During the year "Godspell" "God-spell" director Fred C. Adams, professor of theater arts, will direct performances of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and the musical extravaganza "Sweeney Todd." Phillips will direct "The Lion in Winter." Gary Mclntyre, chairman of the SUSC Theater Department, will direct "Deathtrap," while a new faculty member will direct "The Matchmaker." Also on the agenda is "An Evening of One-Acts," student-directed plays. Other outstanding contribution and achievement awards for the 1981-82 theatrical season at SUSC include: Best Actress Valeen Ogzewalla for her role as Penny in "You Can't Take It With You." Ogzewalla was also voted best actress last year at SUSC for her role of Madame Ranevskaya in "The Cherry Orchard." The junior theater major was also awarded the first Robin Bishop Memorial Scholarship, a theater award established in memory of Bishop, a SUSC theater graduate, who died |
