Show Tourney teams lose for Cedar. Senior Little League The Cedar City Senior Little League Tournament Tour-nament Team traveled to Denver, Colorado for tournament play last week after being crowned Utah State Champs. They lost their first contest 5-0 to the Arizona champions. They lost the first game to a line Arizona team. Kevin Garrett and Cary Uirson nailed the only hits for Cedar. In game two Cedar lost to Arizona 11-1 to lace elimination. Cedar City had live hits but allowed nine walks in the contest. Several Cedar City baseball tournament teams reached the end of their winning roads last week. Cedar American Little League, Senior Little League and the Cedar City Big League tourney teams went down to defeat at the hands of tough opponents in various tourneys in Utah, Colorado and Arizona. Little League The Cedar American Little League team, managed by Jan Mem-mott Mem-mott and coached by Randy Clark and Doug Knight, traveled north to Kearns to play the Northern Division District Champion, who happened to be the Kearns team. Kearns handily defeated the Cedar City squad in two straight games, giving them the win in the two of three series and a trip to San Bernadino, California. The Cedar squad earned the right to play the northen Utah champs by w winning the 17 team southern division tourney the week prior in Cedar City. Kearns picked-up an 11-1 11-1 win in the first tournament encounter. Shawn Wright and Hayley Briggs shared mound duties for Cedar American. They struck-out struck-out six Kearns hitters between them. Greg Frehner scored Cedar's only run after being walked. The second game saw Kearns score four runs in the first after Cedar had left two runners on base in their half of the frame. Kearns netted two more in the second and went on to win 17-1. Delynn Corry, Chris Weaver and Greg Sanders San-ders shared mound duties by an umpire early in the game. In game two the local boys exploded for 15 runs to win 15-7 over New Mexico. Roger Hulet chucked lor Cedar City,, striking . out eight. In a third game Cedar lost to a tough Denver club 6-4. All of Cedar's scoring was done in the final inning. Up to that point they weren't able to put much together. Big League |
