Show Paro wan to get cable TV i By GARY WEBB Record Reporter PAROWAN - Cable television was the main topic at the Parowan City Council last week and Parowan residents will soon he able to choose from a wide variety of programming as a result of the meeting. Clair E m b 1 e y , representing the Delaware-Orcal Company, Com-pany, presented a proposal to the Council which granted a fifteen year franchise to the lirm. Kmbley stated that Ureal will begin operations in the area as soon as possible, with a guarantec-to-commence clause of fill days in the agreement. Cable subscribers will be able to recievc up to 17 channels with the new system. The major channels will be available and a wide selection of, other stations.' Programs irom Atlanta and Chicago and the ESPN sports channel, as well as The Cable News Network and a movie channel will be the main channels, and the company will provide a local channel as well. Where Orcal differs irom other cable systems is in community service. , orcal w ill give the city 3 IktcciU ol the gross revenues from the system and will supply the town with a mobile and stationary facility w hich the city can use as it wishes and televise religious and civic events, said Kmbley. Parowan will share the mobile unit with Panguitch, Reaver and Milford, all three of which have also granted franchises to Orcal. The monthly charge for the package excluding the movie channel will be $9.93. or $19.95 with the movie station. llook-up lee for residents will be $20, $10 i or senior citizens. The liook-up charge is lelunable upon the ' customer's cancellation. In other business The Council approved ap-proved the purchase of a new sewer pump which w ill cost under $1000. The Council referred Vincent Goswich to 1'rankie Lou Bentley concerning the possibility of rezoning a small area ol the Reel Mill development area. |
