Show Cedar observes 24th Pioneer Day in Cedar City was all any Pioneer Day celebration should be.' There was a parade, a host of games and food of every kind to celebrate the anniversary of the pioneers entering the Salt' Lake Valley in 1847. The day started with a break last, followed by a pioneer program. Alter that came the parade and games on the park. The highlight of the day was the competition between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saint wards in contests from log sawing to bishops pie eating to lug-ol-wars to a greased pig chase. The winners in the overall point total were lirst place, the fifteenth ward. D. Tyree Bulloch, bishop; second place, the tenth ward, Howard Munson, bishop; and third place, the first ward, Steve Corry, bishop. In addition, there were kids activities on the park and bake sales and food concessions scattered around the town. It's not as easy as it looks, but it Certainly is fun. The youngsters above take part in the Pioneer Day greased pig chase. The event was just one of many during the day in Cedar City. n |
