Show 3-A playo ffs Upsets dot action Cedar wasn't the only ranked team to taste defeat in the first round of the 3-A State Football Playoffs. Five of the state's Top 10 teams, according to The Salt Lake Tribune's grid poll, will not be in the second round, as upsets dotted four of the eight first round games. Headlining the upsets was No. 1 Cedar's heartbreaking 7-6 loss in overtime to No. 8 Cyprus. v American Fork; at No. 4 the team Cedar figured to meet in a second-round second-round rematch in Cedar City, dropped a shocking 32-36 overtime decision to unranked Viewmont. Highland, also unranked, downed the Region Six's Spanish Fork, rated No. 7, 21-13. In another mild upset, No. 10 Murray edged No. 6 South 14-10, in a bitterly-contested battle which saw a South player slug an official shortly after the game ended. In less surprising results, No. 5 West, considfered by many to be the finest 3-A team now in ths state, bvlnked Springville 45-0, No. 3 David had an easy time with Pleasant Grove 30-7, first-year school Mountain View defeated Ogden 24-14 and perennial powerhouse Judge, rated No. 2, beat Box Elder 34-10. Second round matchups have Cyprus at Viewmont, Murray at Davis, Mountain View at West and Highland at Judge. .
