Show Rams end season with 32-2 loss to Hurricane HURRICANE - After seeing what had happened hap-pened to his football team in the past few weeks, Coach Scott Doubek almost had to feel the Ram's 32-2 loss to Hurricane Friday night was a moral victory. For one, they had dropped a 63-0 game to Beaver three weeks earlier. And the Rams entered Hurricane knowing that the Tigers had given Beaver its only two losses of the year--21-12 and 20-17. They had to expect a real thumping there. The Rams had also lost close ones to teams it had hoped to beat-North Sevier 8-7, and Milford 6-0. 6-0. They came in 0-5 in Region 12 and a dismal 1-6 1-6 overall. And, if that weren't enough, several players had been kicked off the squad for what Doubek termed "disciplinary problems." That left a makeshift, short-numbered short-numbered crew that left for Hurricane Friday. But it was a case of "it was bad, but not really as bad as it could have been." Hurricane put up three first half scores, thanks to two six-yard TD passes from quarterback Kyle Gubler to Reed Slack and Gary Blackham, and an 8-yard run by back Danny Humphries. Two of the three points failed, and the Tigers entered the locker room up 19-0. That lead was quickly upped when quarterback Gubler also displayed his talents running back kicks, taking the opening second half one 80 yards for a touchdown. Other than that, the Rams largely held in check a Tiger offense that now included many reserves. Backup quarterback Danny Humphries did toss a final scoring pass of 14 yards to Lance Gubler in the fourth quarter to finish it up. The Rams got their two points when a Tiger of fensive lineman, now playing as a running back, was easily trapped in the end zone by Parowan defenders. Doubek felt the two points were a moral victory for his team, for Hurricane h had been "goofing around" much of the second half, and effectively toying with the Rams. Statistics don't mean much in a game like this, but the Rams could also take consolation in the fact they played the Tigers relatively close in this department. Hurricane had just 11 first downs to the Ram's nine. In total offense, the Tigers piled up 217 yards to the Ram's 167. Parowan completed more passes, 10, than did Hurricane, nine. And that was with Todd Robinson, the Ram's usual sturdy running back, playing at quarterback quar-terback for the "first time in his life," according ac-cording to Doubek. Robinson did toss two interceptions, but the Rams were able to pick off four errant Tiger passes. "All in all, I'd say we did a pretty good job considering the situation," said Doubek. "We didn't get blown out as bad as up in Beaver. They may have had a lot of reserves playing in the second half, but we had at least four or five normal reserves playing all I " game, and some at new I positions." I With the loss, the Rams ;! ended their season 1-7, I one victory less than last j year's squad that j defeated Milford twice. j How does the future of ! Parowan football look? Not much better, j perhaps. "We're going to if get hit hard again by H graduaion," said Doubek. "Most of our top players U are seniors now. How we H do in the coming years 1 just depends on the 1 younger kids and how I they pick up the slack. A 1 lot of that won't be ap- I parent until practices 1 next fall. I'm just going to I keep working on building I a footbaH program here." I The Standings RMAC Region 12 Standings Final Standings Conf All Conf All W L W L PF PA W L W L PF PA So.
