Show Matheny to Attend School Ten Utah students who want to be dentists, including in-cluding Teresa Matheny of Cedar City, will start fyeir studies in their home state in September under an agreement established July 2 between the University of Utah and the University of Washington in Seattle. The Regional Dental Education Program (RDEP) extends dental education opportunities and resources of the University of Washington (UW) School of Dentistry to residents of neighboring states without dental schools. An additional advantage of the program is that dental students may study in a variety of dental care settings. The RDEP students will attend their first year classes at the University of Utah in facilities especially equipped for the program. Most of their basic science instruction will be from members of the University of Utah College of Medicine faculty. The Utah dental practitioners who participate par-ticipate in the program at the University of Utah will hold faculty appointments with departments at the UW School of Dentistry. The dental students will attend their second, third and a portion of their fourth year courses in Seattle. During the fourth year, the students will receive clinical experience in community clinical units in Utah under the supervision of practicing dentists. Miss Matheny is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Rex Matheny, Cedar City. She is a graduate of Southern Utah State College. |
