Show ICs kmim lm ool by brent m Sgqwi tooiteie farnsworth may be Snow Geese, but possession pos-session limits on Canada Geese have been doubled to where a hunter may have foui in possession. The general elk season began be-gan last Wednesday and probably prob-ably no where in the state was the hunting as good as for the 20 permit holders on the Beaver Bea-ver Mountain Elk Unit. Six bulls were taken on opening day all in the vicinity of F re -mont,C6yote & South CreekAt least three more bulls have been taken since opening. The fact that nine our of twenty hunters have gotten elk so far is a good statistic, but the amazing thing has been the size of the bulls taken. Four six point bulls top the list; followed by three five point bulls, a three point and one spike. Needless to say, there are some happy hunters walking walk-ing around and most of them are from Beaver County. I didn't get a chance to work on Indian Peaks as I was assigned on Beaver Mountain, and two other officers worked out west so I don't know how the hunters did on Beaver County's other elk unit. The word I did receive was that it was hard hunting. The general waterfowl season sea-son opened last Saturday, but not to many hunters were found in the Beaver County area. A cool and slightly drizzly day was in store for the few hunters who were out, but it dldn'thelp out the hunting hunt-ing much. Beaver County is not known for its duck hunting anyway. But there were fewer ducks in the area last Saturday than on some openers. The Goose season will open this Saturday, October 10th,' but not many geese are In the area yet, either. The goose season last through December 31st this year which is about ten days longer than last year. The extra ten days will make some of the local hunters happy because they, will now have a chance at some of the later flights of geese. Daily bag limits remain the same -five geese of which two may be Canada Geese and three .
