Show It should have been said before, but it's not too late to slap the Courthouse Players Play-ers on the back. This dedicated dedi-cated bunch just completed their most successful season sea-son with two stage plays, "The Fantasticks" and "Our Town", and tossed in the Barbershop Singers, a ragtime - classical concert and the Dungeon of Art. Disregarding all the work we know was involved, because be-cause we know they loved every minute of it, plaudits are in order for the fine entertainment presented to Beaver Countyites and visitors. visit-ors. Both plays were well presented. pre-sented. Nothing less than you would expect in the big city. They were well cast and rehearsed, re-hearsed, and the talent was exceptional. The subject matter was tastefully handled han-dled . Imagine what TV would do with the script to "The Fantasticks." The amazing thing was the few props necessary. Excellent direction made them unnecessary. And your Imagination filled in, so that you could envision everything every-thing from the brick, wall in "The Fantasticks" to Grovers Corners, New Hampshire in "Our Town". - 0 - But enough about the Main Event. The Barbershop Singers presented an evening even-ing of harmony and good music that could be enjoyed by anyone. And Gordon and Nell gave us a great evening of light classical and ringing ragtime. While we don't have the talent to play a yazoo, we certainly recognize talent when we see it and hear it. But Gordon and Nell have more than talent. Theyhave showmanship. It's the stuff that stars are made of. This is evidenced by the fact that they were called back for a repeat performance. perfor-mance. And we are sure they could fill the house several times more. But you're sure to see their talent many times more, as they will be called on to perform time and again. So if you missed them before, or even if you didn't, don't pass up another chance. - 0 - But there is a lot of fine talent in Beaver County. And much of it will be on display Friday at the County Fair talent show. This is one event that requires little advertising ad-vertising because with 25 acts, its almost certain that parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents and cousins will fill the cultural hall. But don't let that deter you. Get there early enough to get a seat, and enjoy those talented people in the show. You won't be sorry. - 0 - Fair time is reunion time, and MHS Alumni from the pre -1940 era will hold their reunion August 14, 15, 16. There is a big time planned with lots of getting re-acquainted. re-acquainted. There will be lots of tall stories, and some truth for sure. We'd like to tape record some of the tales of hi-jinks these old timers pulled, to play back the next time there is a ruckus ruck-us at the High School. 0 - It's good to have the kids home a spell. Though the visit will be all too short for me, it's likely they will be anxious to return to their friends and school. I met them in Salt Lake Friday, and spent Saturday at lagoon (Continued on Paew 2 HERE'S MORE ABOUT Just Betwaen before returning to Milford. It's a pity that it takes kids to show an old man how to have fun. Oh, we didn't : take in everything, there -wasn't time, and the old man found a shade tree while Sean and Kelli rode some of the rides. But we did ; indulge in the roller coaster coast-er and a couple of others. Guess there is a little kid 'in all of us that needs to be let out once in a while. |
