Three firms submitted resumes for bridge engineering en-gineering and the Commission Commis-sion decided to request proposals pro-posals from Bush & Gud-gel Gud-gel and Horrocks Engineering. Engineer-ing. Even though the Commission Commis-sion placed a moratorium on rezoning in Beaver County it was decided to readver-tise readver-tise the Kehr property for change from RA-1 to 1-1. Bill Kehr argued that his request was similar to one of Lee Oertle which had been granted two months ago. Kehr's petition was de-(Continued de-(Continued on Page 2) Roads and zoning were the chief topics of discussion as the Beaver County Commission Com-mission met Thursday in regular session in the Beaver Beav-er County Courthouse. Norman Bradshaw, Frank Harris, Bert Smith and Frank Myers met with the board to discuss right-of-way to their property on the North Interchange. Persian Erickson has posted a sign that the present access is a private road. They indicated the road has long been established es-tablished and used to gain ac -cess to the Beaver City dump. If Erickson closes the road, access would have to be reached from the center cen-ter overpass at U-21 rather than at the north interchange. They asked the county to check into the road as a county road, with established establish-ed right-of-way. The Commissioners took a field trip to look over the road in question, but took no action. They will do some more research before deciding decid-ing what course of action should be taken, if any. Marion Kessler and Rich Lewis discussed a test 'of Dust Guard made on a short stretch of road north of Beaver. The magnesium chloride solution is being used to surface roads at a far less cost than oil. Reportedly Re-portedly it will cut the dust to a minimum and provide a hard, smooth surface, and eliminate washboarding. The' Commission is looking at it for the pole line road, from U-257 to the geothermal area. Kessler will apply it in several test areas on the road before a final decision is made. Estimated cost is $2,000 to $2,500 per mile compared to approximately $50,000 per mile for oil. It is being used extensively in the oil fields in Wyoming and Northern Utah. HERE'S MORE ABOUT City Council nied last month, before the moratorium. The Commission explained explain-ed that with Gertie's approval ap-proval they had changed the requested zoning from C-3 to 1-1, but had been advised when Kehr's petition came up that it would have to be readvertised and a new public pub-lic hearing set to escape legal entanglement. Both Kehr's and Gertie's will be readvertised for change to 1-1. The Commission Is trying to keep retail establishments estab-lishments from the area, but will probably approve light industry, which would be allowed al-lowed under the 1-1 designation. desig-nation. The Commission denied a claim from Morris Coombs for $105,000, charging Illegal Il-legal search and seizure by Deputies Clarence Hutchinson Hutchin-son and Doris Hutchinson; and Beaver City policeman Glenn Buffington, which took place in Beaver. In another action, the Commission was informed by letter that Doris Hutchinson Hutchin-son had filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Agency charging charg-ing the county and Sheriffs department with discrim -ination because of age. She was discharged when the Sheriff hired a secretary who could also perform matron's ma-tron's duties. Janice Roberts reported that the Beaver Softball League Le-ague had scheduled a tournament tourna-ment coinciding with the Fair, which was felt would detract from the gate at special evening activities, thereby possibly throwing the Fair into the hole financially. finan-cially. Attempts to talk with Ray Fails, the organizer, had proven fruitless, and he refused to come to commission com-mission chambers to discuss dis-cuss the problem. However, the Commission interceded through Beaver City, to partially par-tially eliminate the problem. On request from Conrad Grimshaw, the Commission issued an order to stop all open burning during the ex- ' treme fire hazard caused by high cheat grass and dry weather. The state had already al-ready stopped all fire permits per-mits and the order just reaffirms re-affirms the state position. The Commission gave its support to the Milford Valley Memorial Hospital in a suit against the state of Utah to regain $135,000 in Medicare and Medicaid funds. John Maxey, hospital administrator, administra-tor, explained that when the -state legislature in 1976 set up the allocation four hospitals hos-pitals were left out, including includ-ing Milford, Kanab, Wasatch Academy and Delta. They have joined in a suit to regain re-gain the lost funds. They also signed a contract con-tract with Utah Power & Light for street lighting and passed Ordinance No. 162 correcting the property description des-cription on Ordinance 161. Authorized $600 for Florence Flor-ence Electric to run power to the judges stand at the Rodeo grounds. |
