Show Just Between You And Me "1 the city could either do the job itself, or list with a realtor real-tor and hope for the best. But that's not the case, and while it might be relatively easy to sell the property, the city fathers have an obligation to fill the park with jobs. That takes some doing, and they realize that they need a marketing agent with contacts, con-tacts, andknowhowtofindthe best industries for Milford that will accomplish these goals. But there are few guarantees. guaran-tees. Should they go with the guy that drives the hardest bargain, or with the best deal. The key is performance and there are no guarantees. It's difficult to go with past track records, because there are few comparisons with Milford's Industrial Park. Public officials are notoriously no-toriously poor negotiators. They are used to paying the bill, no matter what. Therefore, There-fore, they are often taken advantage ad-vantage of by professional people, the law requires them to hire. Auditors, engineers and lawyers can pretty much write their own ticket. But they get tough with local business, because they are dealing in a medium medi-um they know, where prices are established, and they always want a break, and eene rally est it. Senator Francis Farley has filed suit against the President, the Air Force, and who knows who else, to stop MX. Seems she thinks the decision was made to deploy MX before the DEIS was written. If she's right, how come everybody's sitting on pins and needles waiting for the decision to go ahead with deployment? - 0 - If she and Ed Firm age mess around delaying MX we may be forced to make Russian a required language langu-age In the public schools. Of course, it doesn't seem that either Farley or Firmage are particularly concerned about the consequences conse-quences If MX is not built. It's a well known fact that the anti-MX organizations have many, many card carrying car-rying Commies as members and organizations such as the Socialist Workers Party of America, work side by side with the antl-MX antl-MX groups. We in no way wish to lable all who oppose MX as Com -munists. But there is no question but that they are being used, just as the com -mies have used nearly every disident group since the 30's. Regardless of your personal per-sonal beliefs on MX, you should choose your friends carefully. - 0 -Delaying MX is tantamount to burying your head in the sand. The Russian nuclear threat is real. For 30 years this nation has disarmed and resorted to the negotiating table. It hasn't worked. In today's world, there are two roads to peace. A strong national na-tional defense or surrender. We prefer the former. Evidently Evi-dently Sen. Farley and Ed Firmage prefer the latter. Maybe we should file suit against them for interfering , with our right to be free! X - 0 How much does a ton of 1 bricks weigh? A whole lot more bringing them back 1 than taking them. Just ask , anybody who helped them-' them-' selves to bricks from the Union Pacific walkway last week. o How do you select a mar-' mar-' keting agent. That's the dilemna the City Council Is in. If Milford had Industry knocking on it's door to get in to the new industrial park Marketlng agents are different. dif-ferent. They take what the traffic will bear. In Mil-ford's Mil-ford's case, that calls for up front money. The ques-' tion is how much? And how much profit for the marketing market-ing agent is fair? Certainly he should have adequate Incentive In-centive to do the job. But too much and you price the property out of the market. Too much up front, and the taxpayer must dig deeper. Not enough, and you dont attract industry, and the taxpayers tax-payers end up eating the bonds. It's not easy. And empty industrial parks all over the nation are evidence that many didn't do it right. The Milford Council is sincere in it's effort to bring industry indust-ry to Milford. They know that selection of the right marketing agent is probably the most important step they will take In that regard. Lets hope they make the right decision. - 0 - There have been lots of fender benders recently. And the EMT's are right on the Job. These dedicated people volunteer their services, and do a good Job. We urge you to give them a slap on the back and thanks, but don't do It while they are picking up a victim. - 0 - Fire Chief, Ray Whiting, warns us that weeds and dead grass create a fire hazard that is especially dangerous during the fireworks season. Controlled burning permits are available and your local lo-cal Are department can give you guidelines for safety.and to reduce the fire hazard. The local fire departments will be happy to work with you. |
