Show k --rr- ) BY BRENT FARilSWORTH CONSERVATION OFFICER FOR BEAVER COUNTY ditlons appear to be g00d a strong attraction to J grating ducks. Clear Lake Superlnle1 dent, Don Neilson, said water and food condition, are excellent. Migrate ducks are beginning to show up in large numbers; es pecially greenwlng teal' pi," tail, baldpates and ruddi ducks. Opening day hmtb should be better than aver age, if weather conditions cooperate. Bicknell Bottoms conservation officer, i, Bogedahl, indicates there are lots of ducksinthe area, most are teal, some mallards and pintail can be found. Thegeesehav( m oved off the area to Fish, lake and Johnson Reservoit and likely will not le1V( them until the lakes be to freeze. Panguitch Lake offlcet Norman McKee, said there are lots of ducks currently but they are difficult to him' as the lake offers lots open water, which the ducks use for resting. Someducb can also be found near Pan. guitch Lake on Blue Springs C reek. More ducks are ei. pected as the southern mi. gration intensifies. The botulism outbreak oj Bear River Bay should han no significant effect on hut ing. chamber and magazine combined to 3 stotshells. This plug must be incapable of being removed without disassembling the shotgun. Shooting on opening day does not start until noon, and thereafter begins at daylight day-light each morning of the hunt (12 hour before sunrise). Shooting time ends each day at official sunset, not at dark! A table of beginning and ending times for each day of the hunt is included in the 1980 Waterfowl Proclamation. Proc-lamation. All persons 16 or over who hunt waterfowl must obtain a Migratory Waterfowl Wa-terfowl Stamp and carry it while hunting. These stamps are availabe at the Post Office. Bag limits on ducks are again 7 daily of which not more than two redheads or two canvasbacks, or one of each may be included in the daily bag. The duck season runs through January 4, 1981. Waterfowl hunting should be good as a general rule for opening weekend. Though there are only a couple of locations which receive any concentrated waterfowl pressure in southern Utah, they should yield good hunting hunt-ing opportunity. Duck populations popu-lations are consistent with recent years and food con- The two Beaver County Elk Units opened this past weekend and 25 hunters who had previously drawn out on these units went in pursuit of the elusive bull. The Beaver Mountain Unit, particularly par-ticularly the southern end, was the scene of an early morning elk hunt for 15per-mit 15per-mit holders Saturday. Several Sev-eral of the hunters started in the vicinity of one large group of elk and within a short time, three of the 15 hunters had filled their tags. For the remainder, the elk hunt could become a difficult diffi-cult task, as the elk have now been pushed into the heavy timber. Ten permit holders went in pursuit of a bull elk in the Indian Peaks area in western west-ern Beaver County. This area has always been difficult diffi-cult to hunt, but at least one bull was taken on opening day and a second taken on Sunday. The upland game hunts which opened two weeks ago have turned out to be no easy task as most birds have been scattered and hard to find. The sage grouse hunt which ended Fridayprovided some good shooting for those who found birds, but the m ajority of the hunters had a hard hunt with nothing but sore muscles to show for their efforts. The blue grouse are highly scattered I also. The cold late spring J evidently had a neagative effect on the number of I chicks hatched as popu- ' lations appear to be down j over the past few years. Hunters can pursue blue grouse until November 30. The duck hunt becomes the next of the major hunts to open. Hunters may begin pursuit of these birds this Saturday, October 4, atNoon. I Duck hunters should rem em -ber that although several 1 large flocks of geese are , present in the area, geese may not be taken until October Octo-ber 11. Hunters in pursuit of waterfowl need to be aware of several special regulations regula-tions governing their hunt.
