Show 1 mm rata fspre c J It took the Beaver offense eleven minutes to find the endzone for the first score during the cross -county battle last Friday on the Beaver turf, but after that they broke loose for a 58-0 win, with most of the scoring by the defense. The first quarter was riddled with fumbles and penalties, destroying the momentum of both offensive squads. Kelly Smith finally squirted through several Tiger defensivemen on a broken play, for 47 yards, picking up the 1st of several Beaver touchdowns. Sophomore ace, Todd Plumb, started churning for the Beaver offense early in the second period, moving the ball deep into Tiger territory. ter-ritory. A personal foul on Milford, aided the drive, placing the ball on the eleven yard line. Plumb set up Kelly Smith again with a good block, allowing Smith to make the corner and a second Beaver score. Dalton drilled the PAT and Beaver led 13-0, with 9:10 remaining re-maining in the second quarter. Seniors Milton Smith and Clay Robinson, went to work defensively, forcing the Tigers to punt to the mid-field mid-field stripe. Kurt Sherwood put the pressure on the Beaver offense, which he did several times throughout the game. Beaver fumbled on the Milford 25 yard line, giving Barnes a chance to perform. Barnes hit Mark Whitney for 10 yards, giving the Tigers an offensive spark, but the series was short-' short-' lived when Mike Smith picked .off a Barnes pass on the 50 yard line. Sherwood and Mayer teamed up again on defense, throwing Kelly Smith for a five yard loss, but Smith retaliated re-taliated on the next play, picking up 15 yards and a 1st down. Sophomore Mark Fuller came off the bench,' hitting Blair Smith on a 15 yard pass to the Milford 20 yard line. Kelly Smith darted up the middle to the Tiger five. .With 31 seconds showing on the clockuntilhalftime,Chad Dalton broke two tackles to give Beaver a 21-0 half-time lead. Kelly Smith went to work immediately after the second half kickoff,moving65yards in three plays for a fourth Beaver touchdown. The I roof seemed to fall in from that point for the injury plagued Tigers. Mike Smith intercepted a Barnes pass on the 15 yard line, setting up a Carter to Mike Smith passing score. Milford didn't give up, as freshman, Laney Johnson, and veteran Arlyn Mayer rushed for good yardage. Several times Johnson and Mayer moved the ball, but fumbles and interceptions in fumbles and interceptions intervened to stymie the drives. With 6:12 left in the game, freshman running back Donny Roberts, put on a good rushing show, complimented by Jess Cox and Kevin Hill. Al Jay Boyter blocked a Milford punt deep in Tiger territory, but Milford grabbed a fumble on the next series. Rodney Eyre, of Beaver, scooped up a Milford fumble on the next play and stepped across the goal line for the final score. -Beaver will be idle this week, and will be preparing for Kanab at Beaver, on October 19th. North Sevier travels to Milford, while Parowan takes the long journey to Kanab. |
