Show ' Well, you got to admit that so far the Democratic Convention Con-vention is pretty tame com -pared to the usual democratic democrat-ic process. iOne definition of 'democratic' 'demo-cratic' is 'mob rule' and past Demo National Conventions have come pretty close to living up to that in its worst sense. -0- However, Mr. Carter (he's not president yet) and crowd have been so well behaved that we've only heard one commentator mention the action on Eighth Street. That's the "Big Apples" counterpart for Salt Lake's 2nd South. -0- Meanwhile, back on the home front, the State Republicans Repub-licans won't get into conference confer-ence to decide who makes ! the trip to Kansas C ity. Sen. Garn wants to go, but ' showed the first flaw in his character by deciding to run ! as a Ford delegate. Hope he pi gets left at home. -0- : The Newswatch 2 poll, taken tak-en in June, shows that Rom-ney Rom-ney leads Republicans in the p gubernatorial race, 36.5 to ; I Smoot's 8.5, while Dixie I i Leavitt showed 6. M Creer led the Democrats 1 with 7 and Scott Matheson i (Utah's next Governor) ran j j a poor third with only 4 of h ; the vote. i -0- j Channel 2, which gets first whack at the poll because they're paying for it, have already revised it and are i showing Dixie Leavitt with the most delegates ' going 1 into this crucial weekend. ' We figure Smoot to be the ' only Republican that can give j j Matheson a run in the general ! j election but it doesn't look as if he'll survive the week- end. 1 ! -0- 1 ! The COUNTY NEWS hopes , j to do a short profile on all j ' local candidates in Beaver i County before the primary. So far, none have cooperated with pictures or background. Depending upon who's paying for the poll and how the questions are asked. We do believe, however, 1 ! that polls have a great in- j fluence upon the undecided i voter. A certain percentage like to be associated with a 1 winner and so vote for ! poll leaders broadening j their lead, or making one I that didn't actually exist. j -0- 1 i You got to admit, this j i writer doesnt let himself ( be influenced by the winners j i circle. The only president ! ! we (editorial prerogative) I ever voted for was Nixon and you got to admit he was a loser. -0- Got my father-in-law i pouring a new front porch for the shearing pen we live in. That first step has been a bugger for the past couple of years. j He was telling me how and j why he was going to do it a certain way, Tuesday, when I had to admit that he was telling me a lot more about j cement than I cared to learn. -0- I Paul is semi -retired. That j means we're not paying him i for the job. Haven't figured out if we need another building build-ing permit. The job is part of the one we took out for a building permit for two years ago, when we moved the door over so the present porch no longer lined up with it and caused the problem Paul's trying to correct. Taken by itself, it doesn't amount to enough to require a building permit, and we don't have time or money to do much more. Guess the thing to do is to go drop the whole mess on Nadine. Course, there is one other solution. We could purchase on credit enough siding to (Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT JUST BETWEEN perk up the old shearing pen . then invite the neighbors in to help put it up sort ' of a house warming. It would be, too there's places you can throw the cat through now. -0- . We've got good neighbors they hardly ever mention that the old shearing pen is holding the price of their property down. Course, they're all smart enough to know if we ever get finished remodeling property values val-ues in the whole neighborhood neighbor-hood will sky-rocket and their taxes along with them. |
