Show I in I j The flu bug wasn't the only thing that hit the Wilsons last week. After all sixof us surviving sur-viving a bout with the bug, things got worse. -0- Kelli, our Kindergartner, climbed the slide at the elementary ele-mentary school only to find a mud puddle at the bottom. Knowing the consequences if she slid into it in her school dress, she chose another alternative. She jumped -clear from the top, hitting her chin on her knee and acquiring ac-quiring quite a headache. -0- Calmed and quieted, she and her mother and Sean, (home with the bug) left for Richfield to ge t the paper printed. On the way home they tangled, with a steer in the road, and both came away losers. However, there was no one hurt except the cow. Maybe the age of chivalry is dead while Donna tugged and struggled to get the steer , off the road, so it couldn't cause another accident, three huskies parked in their pickup truck and watched -from the truck. Having removed the obstacle, ob-stacle, they proceeded home to mail your NEWS on time. -0- Our editorial last week brought considerable comment, com-ment, but few candidates. As so often happens, many take the attitude of Let George Do It and this seldom brings about the desired results. re-sults. In fact, George can often be described as the culprit who enters the hen house while everyone sleeps, and makes off with the eggs. In recent years, more and more Georges have been taking not only the eggs and the hens,-but hens,-but burning the henhouse behind be-hind them. -0- This writer is a firm believer be-liever in the two party system, sys-tem, and believes that two full slates of candidates should be presented on November No-vember 4. However, in Milford, which boasts a population of approximately 98?c Democrats, Demo-crats, getting up two tickets is nearly impossible. Presenting Pre-senting two full slates has not leen accomplished in the past six years that we know of and likely for many years l)efore. -0- Due to the lopsidedness, and the fact that the Democrats Demo-crats hold a convention using the party label, it is almost impossible to present a strong ticket in opposition. Democrats won't run against the party, and this cuts the field to nearly nothing. noth-ing. The ideal solution would be to drop the democratic label from the ticket. Then two tickets could easily be formed such as the "peoples "peo-ples ticket" or "citizens ticket" allowing fellow democrats to run on opposing oppos-ing tickets without bucking the party. -0- Since democratic party leaders know a good thing when they see it, they continue con-tinue to use the democratic label which gives their candidates, can-didates, regardless of qualifications, quali-fications, a shoo -in election. One alternative is to infiltrate in-filtrate the demo ranks at the convention and put In you own candidates which still leaves the voters with just one ticket. -0- Another alternative is to use the democratic label on both tickets, such as "loyal democrats", or "loyal opposition". op-position". We prefer the latter alternative, al-ternative, and will support a second ticket on this basis. If there is enough interest demonstrated this week by phone calls or letters, we will help to organize a convention con-vention to pick a second ticket tick-et for the coming election, or will help file a petition. However, time is short! Last filing date is 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 7th. Conventions must be advertised a minimum mini-mum of 5 days. Call us now with support for a second ' ticket and hopefully a list of candidates. Don't let the political po-litical bosses win by default. -0- James Holllngshead won the one year subscription to (Continued on Page 2) - HERE'S MORE ABOUT BETWEEN the NEWS by bringing in the first ripe cantaloupe last week. However, he barely edged Barbara Mayer, who raised some mighty tasty muskmelon. We've heard of banana squash 33 inches long and still growing and we're sure there are other monsters in every garden. We may have a record ourselves with Jerusalem artichokes well over" "seven; feet. Their size is not the record, but the fact they achieved such size practically without benefit of water. -0- If you've missed the TV program on the 'new constitution' consti-tution' the past two weeks on Channel 2 and 4, don't miss it this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on Channel 5. You'll find the program shocking and provoking and we hope it will spur you to action. |
