Show Girls lockers burned out Friday night A fire ; which gutted the girls' locker room in the old Milford High School gym early Saturday morning, is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's office. Special investigator Steve Kennedy and his assistant were in town this week to investigate in-vestigate the fire, believed set sometime after the dance Friday night. The dressing room, used by the visiting Parowan team, had a broken lock and access was easily made. It is suspected that the fire was started in sponge rubber used for the high jump and pole vault landing. The intense heat burned the paint off the ceiling and down the walls to within a couple of feet of the floor. Smoke and heat traveled up the stairwell, but did not break through into the gym except to smoke the floor for a couple of feet near the door. The fire was not discovered discover-ed until about 10:30 a.m. Saturday Sat-urday morning, at which time the fire department took trucks to the building, but it had already burned itself out. This is the second fire in the old gym. Last spring, an attempt was made to ignite the weight room in several places, but the arsonist was unsuccessful in destroying the building then as this time. The structure, built in 1939, is poured cement and sturdily built, probably the reason it is still standing. A new Milford High gym was dedicated last November, Novem-ber, but the old gym, besides housing dressing rooms for football, the complete shop and vocational facilities of MHS, is used for physical education, dances, and many other functions. Kennedy reported that to date, four have been chaiged with arson In Milfordj three juveniles and one adult. Qne juvenile has been brought to court, and released on probation. pro-bation. The other cases are pending. Property damage this year alone , including the recent mill fire, is valued at over a million dollars. |
