Show COURTHOUSE DEDICATION DRAWS CROWD A packed courtroom at-. at-. tended the dedication ceremonies cere-monies of the new Beaver County Courthouse last Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Sept. 10, and many more took advantage of the Open House to become acquainted ac-quainted with the new structure. struc-ture. Comm. Stan Roberts acted as Master of Ceremonies and the invocation was given by Comm. Thurman Eyre. Comm. Chairman Harris told the gathering that the building was built at a cost of $550,000 which included a $400,000 bond election, use of a capital outlay levy that was carried for several years, and revenue sharing. Hp pointed out that the old courthouse would be preserved pre-served and that it had been turned over to the D.U.P. Camps for use as a museum. He said it took five years to build at a cost of $17,000. Former Commissioner G. R. Jefferson, who was on the commission at the time the courthouse Vas started, stated his ambition was to give Beaver County a functional func-tional county office building. He charged the people of Beaver, because of their proximity to the new building, build-ing, with seeing that the new building is taken care of. "If you see it starting to be rundown, run-down, get in here and get after af-ter the commissioners, and in 100 years, instead of being forced to replace it with a new one, it'll be just as good as new." There were musical numbers num-bers from the three larger communities, and representatives represen-tatives of the bonding agent, architect, and contractor each said a few words before John O. Christensen, Beaver County Attorney, gave the dedicatory prayer. |
