Show FOUR QUALIFY FOR STATE: Three Take firsts In Region Trach Klee? Coach Willden's thinclads took three firsts and placed four athletes in the State Track and Field Meetsetfor this week, during the Region Eight Meet in Cedar City last week. Alan Mayer set a new region re-gion record of 16.0 seconds in winning the 120 yard high hurdles. Alan, with a 15.6 at BYU and a 15.5 in practice, looks to be the man to beat In State 1-A competition. The old region record was 16.4 seconds. Kevin Barnes soared 20 feet 5 34 inches in winning the long jump and JImRaines ran the 440 yard dash in 53.4 seconds to complete the Tiger first place finishes. Kevin also qualified in the high jump with a 3rd place and Russell Smith will join the others for a state bid for his 3rd place finish in the 100 yard dash. Tom Jones almost got a bid to state in the shot-put, but his own integrity kept him home when he pointed out to the judges that another athlete's shot had outdistanced outdis-tanced his own, and took a fourth place finish. Other Tiger athletes placing plac-ing in the Region 8 1 -A Meet were 4th, Tom Jones, discus; Russell Smith, 220 yard dash. Fifth Alan Mayer, low hurdles; Kevin Barnes, shot-put; shot-put; John Horlacher, 880 yard run; Jim Raines, T. Jones, G. Mayer, Don Livingston, Liv-ingston, medley relay. Sixth Randy Kerr, 220 yard dash; Kevin Barnes, G. Mayer, S. Symond, R. Smith, 440 yard relay. Kanab was the Region team champ. |
