Show Report On Beaver County Projects For Bicentennial After some deadline revisions re-visions and some policy changes, the State Bicentennial Bicenten-nial Commission have made some clear-cut decisions now that will make it easier for the Beaver County Bicentennial Bi-centennial Committee to know where they are going and to be able to report to this county on the progress of their work. For a time, the $18,000 granted to our county for capitol outlay was threatened by other special interest groups from other parts of the state. At our meeting with State and District officials on November 7th, we were assured that this money is now ours to use providing we have our projects approved ap-proved and have matching funds available before the new deadline of July 1, 1975. Our county committee of Carol Smith, Donna Morris, Daisy Gillins, Gladys Whit-taker, Whit-taker, and Dan F. Joseph divided this money as follows: fol-lows: $7,000 for Beaver, $7,000 for Milford, and $4,000 for Minersville. Each community representative agreed,-that. they could raise this. much matching fund for projects in their town. Beaver City received $7,-000 $7,-000 from the City Council for their matching fund and have signed contract with the State Bicentennial Commission Commis-sion to build an outdoor theater the-ater on the swimming pool park, and it will also house restrooms that can serve patrons of the Little League Park and the swimming pool park area. This contract provides $6,000 state funds. Beaver City will very likely like-ly spend their other $1,000 in cooperation with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Pio-neers In preserving and converting con-verting the old courthouse building to a multiple -use facility. This project has been presented to the State Commission for approval. Minersville, in coopera-; tion with the LDS Church,,' has submitted a project for park and recreation facilities facili-ties to be constructed on one end of the church grounds. Their matching funds have been pledged by the town Board. They have received approval on a county and district dis-trict level, and they are now awaiting approval by the State Commission. The Milford project, centering cent-ering around park improvements improve-ments on Library Hill, will soon be ready for presentation. presenta-tion. It is hoped that by early spring all projects will have been approved and under construction. The County Bicentennial Bi-centennial Committee can then concentrate their efforts ef-forts more fully on the celebration cele-bration itself, giving equal emphasis to the three -fold purpose of horizons, heritage, heri-tage, and festivals In commemoration com-memoration of the Bicentennial. Bicenten-nial. Any questions about the projects or this article can be directed to Dan F. Joseph, Jo-seph, County Chairman. |
