Show Tigers Beat Beavers; Meet Kanab Tonight Mllford 85, Beaver 71 -That's the way the scoreboard looked after it was all over -and no one could argue it. No one wanted to! Milford, Beaver and Mln-ersvllle Mln-ersvllle fans alike, all knew they had seen a whale of a ball game. They saw two good teams meet and there was no question which was the better on this night. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, 8-2, and lead 22-12 22-12 by the quarter. Mostly on some excellent outside shooting shoot-ing by Barnes and Smith. Big Jimmy Raines had picked up two fouls though and got his third with less than a minute gone in the third. Coach Nielsen was forced to go to his bench early as Raines, Smith and Mayer all were in foul trouble early. However, Nielsen has plenty of bench strength and the Tigers Ti-gers lost no ground as tl ley increased in-creased their lead to 17 points 40-23 at the half. Raines soon had his fourth foul after Jumping center in the 3rd period, and was forced to watch his team mates try to hold on with the Beavers hitting hit-ting for 85 from the field during the 3rd period. But the Tigers were equal to the task and finished the quarter out front by 15 points. In the fourth quarter Jimmy again got into the game as did the rest of the bench that had not yet seen action. The Beavers Beav-ers put on the press, but couldn't could-n't make It work and got into foul trouble themselves, losing los-ing Eyre In the process. Barnes and Richard Smith had hot hands in the first half hitting 20 and 21 respectively for the game. Raines, who spent nearly as much time on the bench as on the floor, still managed 23 points for high scoring honors and picked pick-ed off 18 rebounds. Workman had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Mayer picked off 10 rebounds as he and Tait each dunked four points. Russell Rus-sell Holm picked up three and Russell Smith 2. Kevin Barnes lead in assists with 9. The Tigers shot 52 from, the field and hit 17 of 25 foul shots for 68. The Beavers' Russell Al-brecht Al-brecht had 22 points for run-nerup run-nerup honors and turned in a fine game. Gary Gillins had 17 points and Bryant Eyre 15 before he fouled out. Chad Hollingshead came off of the bench in the second half and put the press on Barnes, holding hold-ing Ills point total down in the second half. As a team the Beavers shot 46 from the field and hit 23 of 33 from the foul line for 70 in mat department. de-partment. Tonight the Tigers are in Kanab (Thursday) for a crucial game with the Cowboys. If the Cowboys can pull off an upset tonight it would throw the two teams Into a tie for first place In the western division of Region Re-gion Eight. They boast four of the top big boys. in the league and two good guards. If they can put a game together, the Tigers could find themselves in a playoff for the division championship. Regardless, you can bet this game will be a classic. |
