Show FIRE DESTROYS BARNS, HAY AT THURSTON FARM Fire Destroyed most of the outbuilding and about 7-10 tons of hay Friday night at the Ross Thurston farm on the flat of South Milford. The fire which started in the south end of the building, away from the house was out of control con-trol and well underway when it was discovered by Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones who seen it from the highway heading toward to-ward Milford, which is a couple of miles away. They turned in and drove to the Thurston place to see if they could be of assistance and discovered the Thurstons did not know of the fire yet. The alarm was turned in at 8:30 and Milford firemen sped to the scene. They used up the water on the truck and were hampered in efforts to get more water until the power company was able to get the power on the irrigation pump. Then difficulties dif-ficulties come in the way of plugged nozzels from the hay in the irrigation ditch. The firemen managed to keep the fire from spreading beyond the buildings and hay that were afire when they arrived and moved one hay stack of bales and saved it. All cattle and the horse that was in the barn were saved, and livestock loss was held to a few chickens. |
