Milford High School i By LINDA SHIELDS ever, it will be an evening dance in the gymnasium. o The Junior High members of the band journeyed to Delta Wednesday to participate in the Regional Large Groups Festival. Fes-tival. They competed with groups from most of the schools in Region Eight. Mr. Winkle, band director, said he thought the students 1 did a fine job and they should receive a good rating. Election time has once again rolled around at Milford High. Brightly colored posters cover the walls, and students are seen walking around with lapel signs pinned to their clothes. Election Week began last Friday with the nominating convention, where students revealed re-vealed their plans to run for a student body office. Larry Barnes and Terry Long were nominated for president; Judy Rianes and Melvin Walker for vice president, and Phyllis Bar ton and Evelyn Colby for secretary. sec-retary. In order to run, these students had to have a "B" average, and Phyllis and Evelyn Eve-lyn also had to have completed a year of type and shorthand. During the first part of this week the candidates were involved in-volved in getting organized. Campaign managers and committees com-mittees were chosen to help the candidates with their activ-dties. activ-dties. Students were given assignments as-signments to make posters or hand out lapel signs, and others oth-ers were simply told to urge their friends to vote for one particular candidate. On Thursday, the candidates were given the opportunity to ypeak to the entire sutdent l.ody. They revealed their hopes for next year, and told of their past experiences which prepared them for their office. After the speeches, the students will vote for the candidates of their choice and the new student stu-dent body officers will be announced an-nounced later in the afternoon. o The Milford delegates to American Legion Boys State were selected this week. The boys chosen were Boyd Apple-gate, Apple-gate, Garthe Banks, Larry Barnes, Terry Long, Ron Mayer, May-er, and Bill Schow, with Jan Memmott as alternate. To be considered as a delegate dele-gate the boys had to write a letter to The American Legion Le-gion telling why they wanted to go to Boys State. The final selection was then made on the basis of their answers to questions ques-tions during a personal interview inter-view with an American Legion committee. Congratulations to these boys. We know they will do a fine job of representing Milford this summer. o The Sophomore Class will take its turn at entertaining the student body tomorrow. This assembly will feature many musical numbers, both vocal and instrumental. Pans also include comical skits about marriage and an encounter with the judge. For their finale, fi-nale, they have decided to include in-clude the audience in a game of "Let's Make a Deal." As of yet, their class dance has not been scheduled. How- |
