The only other Candy Striper group south of Provo is at Codar City. The Candy Stripers perform, many important tasks at the hospital, but their major work is with the elderly people, assisting them in any way possible, organizing handicraft programs, and mainly "helping keep the older folks occupied and happy. Leader of the group is Mrs. Phyllis Symond, who visited and observed similar groups at St. Marks, the Primary Children's Child-ren's and LDS Hospitals in Salt Lake before organizing the local group. She is assisted assist-ed in directing the girls by Mrs. Jacqueline Williams, superintendent su-perintendent of nurses. Starting Start-ing with nine volunteers between be-tween the ages of 13 and 20, the group will be augmented by another unit to be oriented in June, Lee Symond is president of the Milford Candy Stripers;, and Mary Ann Leppink, secretary-treasurer, Others are Lee Ann Banks, Geraldlne Bradshaw, Brad-shaw, Marlene Finch, Nanette Jpnes, Karol Pipher, Adele Mayer and Laraine Clark. Several organizations and individuals in-dividuals have assisted in getting get-ting the Candy Stripers organized, organ-ized, Mrs. Symond said .including .includ-ing the BPW, Lady Lions and the Rosarians. |
