"Red" Wilson Funeral services are being held in Independence, Missouri today for Harry S Truman, former President of the United States. Eulogie-s from the great and famous personages have been common place since his death Tuesday, after several weeks of illness. Being born and raised in a small southern Iowa town, not to far from Independence, I have many recollections of the controversial, often outspoken President, who single-handedly took on the United States Marines, Mar-ines, fired his Five-star General, Gen-eral, MacArthur, and gave the order to drop the first atomic bomb. Historians say he will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents in history. We believe that one of the very basic reasons for this is his quality to relate to the average man, his ability to use good old fashioned common horse sense, in the decision making in that highest of all offices in the land. Harry S. Truman was a president pres-ident of all the people, but, especially he was a President to the average working man, v'ho understood and believed in his straight from the shoulder remaks, and decisions, that left no doubt of his stand. i .... . , ; .ni.wmi i umjihw |
