Show DIVISION TO HOST WESTERN Salt Lake City will be the site of the 1973 Western Association Asso-ciation of State Game and Fish Commissioners annual conference. confer-ence. The meeting is set for July through 13 in the Hotel Utah. The theme will be "Fitting "Fit-ting Wildlife into the Land Use Jigsaw." The Utah State Division of Wildlife Resources will be host of the event. The Western Association was founded in 1922 by David H. Madsen, who at that time was commissioner (director) of the Utah Fish and Game Department. Depart-ment. In his 1921-22 biennial report re-port to Governor R. Mabey, f ... Madsen had the following to sa: "It was thought advisable to have an organization of fish and game commissioners from the several States of the West whose problems are similar . . . The Commissioners of ten western west-ern States were invited to Salt Lake City last January and an organization affected known as the Western Association of State Fish and Game Commissioners. Commis-sioners. The organization, which means much to the future development de-velopment of fish and game in the West, has resulted in much closer cooperation between the States, and a helpful exchange cf ideas as to the best methods of protection and propagation." Seven persons attended the original conference in 1922. The last time the conference was held in Utah in 1960, seven hundred people attended. The 1973 conference will mark the seventh meeting of the organization organi-zation in the Beehive State.
