The valve, evidently left on when the railroad rail-road tank was drained for the winter, left water in the pipes and to the pump under the big railroad t:nk, which burst during the recent cold wave, and thawed thaw-ed out last Thursday evening, flooding several garages, and the basement apart- ments at both Hughes and Grays Apts. The water created a stream of warm water to run from the tanks, east to 200 West, then north, as far as Center Street, with the larger portion making the traverse dewn the street which goes down the hill by the Catholic Church, and flooding garages on 100 East and proceeding on to Main Street. The leak was discovered about 9 :00 p.m. and was shut off at about 10:00 p.m. The water immediately begin receding. |
