Show v"- z- XEW CLASS, NEW TEACHER Mr. Alfred Reese Thomas, from Park City, Utah, is our new guidance counselor and teacher this year. Mr. Thomas graduated from Park City High School and Brigham Young University. He was District Manager for the World Book Encyclopedia, but because of his interest in teaching he returned re-turned to education. His hobbies hob-bies are hunting, fishing, and reading. The new class that he is teaching is Psychology. Some of the topics he will cover are: Personalities, physical growth, courtship, marriage, life work, and communication. The class is given to teach people to un- derstand themselves and the people around them. M. H. S. BAND This year the band students of M. H. S. have plans of traveling trav-eling and participating in more activities. These activities include in-clude the annual Christmas concert and a trip to Las Vegas. There are 42 students who will be providing good music for an excellent band. Five new music stands were placed in the room. Repairs were made to band instruments and also tc the room. Elections for officers were held Aug. 27 and the following were chosen: President, Doug Fowles; Vice-President, Linda Acklin; Secretary, Vickie Ogden. SAMPLE BALLOT ELECTION A sample primary election was held at the high school Tuesday, September 4. This election was sponsored by the social studies department and the Milford news, who furnished fur-nished all of the sample ballots. bal-lots. The voting was under the direction di-rection of Mr. Long and Miss Peterson in their social studies classes. The students were instructed in-structed on the correct procedure proce-dure for voting, the importance of elections and the part they play in theifc. lives. It was also" a straw vote to determine the election trend and the thinking of the students, stu-dents, and to prepare them for their future duty in the democratic demo-cratic process. FOOTBALL OUTLOOK Depth, size and inexperience are some of the obstacles facing fac-ing the Tigers at the opening of the football season. Though the loss of nine starters may hurt them, the Tigers have new talent who will be competing with returning lettermen for the starting positions. Piloted by Coach Davids and Coach Rowley the team is looking look-ing forward to a good season. The first game will be held on the home field against the Richfield Rich-field Wildcats at 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 7,' so let's all come out and support the team . JUST ACROSS THE SAW Mr. Wells,; head of the Shop Department, is new to Milford High. Mr. Wells is from Black-foot, Black-foot, Idaho. He graduated from Blackfoot High School, and later la-ter entered Brigham Young University. Mr. Wells and his shop students stu-dents have a new jointer, purchased pur-chased by the school, to work with this year. This new ma chine should prove very helpful help-ful in the shop classes. The first period, 11th and 12th grade shop, will be spending spend-ing the year on wood products. The fourth period, 9th grade class, will be dividing their work between the woodshop and electricity. The electricity instruction should be very helpful, help-ful, since in this day and age, electricity and its correct uses are important. The fifth period, 10th grade class, will be working with sheet metal and wrought iron, while the seventh period class is now involved in copper, and leather work. All in all, it sounds like the students in the shop classes will be kept active during the coming year. TIGERETTES Tigerettes are welcoming into their club many talented new members. The officers this year are: Karen Bedingfield, President; Lee Ann Erickson, Vice Presi1 dent; Vicki Ogden, Secretary; Louise Gillins, Drill Mistress; and Karen Thompson, Assistant Assist-ant Drill Mistress. The new advisor, Miss Joyce Petersen, graduated from Brigham Brig-ham Young University. Her immediate family lives in Glen-dale, Glen-dale, California. With her experience ex-perience in modern dance, we know that she is well qualified tc guide the Tigerettes off to a good start. SENIOR RINGS The Senior Class Rings have arrived and will be distributed as, soon as all final payments are made. This year there was a choice of two styles, either with a red stone or the plain metal. Although most girls have ordered or-dered the plain rings, which have a mirror like finish to them, the stones are very attractive at-tractive also. So be on the lookout for one of the most eye-catching rings and Seniors have ever ordered. JUNIORS AWAITING SWEATERS The Juniors, Class of '64, are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their class sweaters. This year's class sweaters are different than sweaters from other years. There are two different dif-ferent styles: boys sweaters, :.' which are similar to those of the past, and the Junior girls are introducing a new style this year. ' They have chosen the very smart colors of white trimmed with red. Very soon you will be seeing the smartly dressed Juniors parading up and down in their new sweaters. |
