Show 9 jbiUtHO, Bik 9 Jteatd By STEVE WILLIAMS Dunno, but they tell me J;ickie always cautions pretty new nurses, pointing out some of the male patients: "These are the dangerous cases . . . they're almost well." And Dave Morris explains the best way to get away from the hand-shakers up and down Main Street ... he tells 'em he's already voted an absentee ballot. "They ain't interested in me afler that," Dave said. Elmo Smith is pretty het up . . . and rightfully so. Seems fome dove hunter killed a heifer heif-er at his ranch. Apparently the hunter was shooting at doves on the barbed wire fence, with high velocity shells, because the neck and chest of the animal were penetrated, causing death. Each year, usually during pheasant season, South Milford ranchers and farmers lost livestock, live-stock, and on occasion the lady of the house has' had to herd the younger children inside like a mother hen with chicks when a hawk approaches, to keep them safe from the barrage bar-rage of the scattergunners. And "sportsmen" howl about the increasing in-creasing posting of land. There's no reason why hunters hunt-ers and farmers can't get along ... if the hunters will show a little respect for other folks' property, and above all, look before they shoot . . . look at something besides the target. Used to be the kids spent a lot of time looking for Grandma's glasses . . . now she just leaves 'em where she empties them. Newest definition of a small town . . . where a guy don't have to explain his black eye; everyone knows how he got it. The Jeepsters of Beaver County didn't find the lost fliers fli-ers in their Labor Day weekend week-end search, but members of the posse from east of the Colorado Colora-do did . . . and it's evident that the Jeep Patrols of the state are a very valuable asset to a community. The local group searched the west side of the river, combing rugged canyons, draws, washes, etc., all day Saturday and most of Sunday, before learning that the plane had been found. Congratulations to the group of well-organied participation in a humanitarian effort. Sallie Sez: Today's dollar is just like a quarterhorse . . . built for speed, not endurance. |
