Show CSU Excavating; Old Indian Sites Archeological excavation at ancient Indian sites near the town of Santa Clara in Washington Wash-ington County were nearing completion this week by students stu-dents from the College of Southern Utah under the direction di-rection of Dr. Richard Thompson. Thomp-son. According to Dr. Thompson, the students excavated a large cache pit, clay lined with a conical base that had been used for storage of various items. At a lower level, a fire circle of a different occupancy oc-cupancy was located. The site yielded some 22 different pottery pot-tery types. 1 ' ;.iJS3 All tne artifacts will soon be on display in the new Southern South-ern Utah Museum of Natural History on the campus. Spring quarter, Dr. Thompson Thomp-son and his ' students will return re-turn to Indian mounds in the Sumit area to continue work on about four structures that have been already located. Students or other interested persons may register for the three hour course, Sociology 33, which will include field work each Saturday and one lecture weekly. |
