Show MINERSVILLE RESERVOIR TO BE CLOSED After a gill-net check of fish in Minersville reservoir to determine de-termine rate of growth, Othello Othel-lo Riley, Beaver County Game Warden, advised this week that the Department of Fish and Game is considering closing clos-ing the reservoir to fishing until the regular opening of the fishing season in June. The reservoir has been open year-round. The gill-net test late in January Jan-uary showed an average length of 8 inches for the rainbows caught. No trash fish were caught, Mr. Riley said. About 61,000 4-inch rainbows were planted in the reservoir in October, and these have doubled in size in spite of the cold water. It is felt that if the reservoir is closed ifntil the June opening, instead of being available to fishermen as soon as the 16-inch ice cover breaks, the rainbows will all be 12 to 14 inches long. Mr. Riley reported that the fish were "full of feed," which is unusual for fish wintering under heavy ice cover. It is expected that most Beaver County sportsmen will approve the decision of the Fish and Game Department. |
