Show . Rook J sssSsr-: J What Do YOU Expect from Your Board of Education Member? O SINCERITY, ABILITY, INTEREST Since 1945, the interest Steve Williams has shown in the schools of Beaver County is ample evidence of his sincere desire to continue the improvement in curricula and scholarship scholar-ship which has been apparent in recent years. The award for Exceptional Service in Community Leadership presented to him by the Utah State University was earned through his efforts in behalf of better Beaver County Schools. He will be an able representative of District 5. O IMPARTIALITY Steve Williams is impartial in his thinking. The Beaver County Schools must be considered as a county-wide business with each member of the Board of Education giving impartial, impar-tial, just consideration to the needs of each of the schools; however, membership on the Board of Education as a representative repre-sentative from District 5 requires the representative to be alert at all times to the needs of his district and calls for insistence that his district be given. just consideration in all matters, including selection of administrators and teachers, stocks of textbooks and supplies, building care, athletic equipment, etc. Steve Williams will do this. O DEPENDABILITY, AVAILABILITY Steve Williams' financial interests are in Beaver County. He is on the job, in the county, every day of the year, and always available for regular and special meetings or for consultations consulta-tions with other board members, school administrators or school patron groups when matters of importance arise. It-is It-is important that School Board members be in the county and available when needed. Steve Williams has no calls upon his time except publishing newspapers, and will at all times be available. The school patrons of District 5 know that they can depend upon his judgment, and his continued interest inter-est in schools of the district and the county. O BACKGROUND, BUSINESS EXPERIENCE Steve Williams has a versatile background including many types of employment and many avocations. He is a veteran of World War II, a member of The American Legion and a past Post, District and State officer. At present he is Service Officer for Milford Post 16 and for District 7. As a member of the Beaver County Board of Education he will devote his time and abilities to continuing the improvement of the Beaver County school system, sys-tem, working for better curricula and better facilities, and as teacher replacements become necessary will insist on the best that can be obtained for all Beaver County Schools. He has the respect of other Board members, and can and will work in harmony with each of them. Ability. to think for oneself and arrive at fair, impartial conclusions con-clusions is essential in a member of the Board of Education, yet each Board Member is obligated to listen to and give serious consideration to the opinions and wishes of the school patrons who elect him. Steve Williams has made no promises or commitments to any group or faction, but will at all times consult with school patron groups and consider their wishes and opinions. A Newspaperman orthe Board of Education W ? There are a dozen reasons why a member of the "Fourth Estate" . . . the newspaper publishers, SHOULD be members of the Boards of Education, Edu-cation, for every one that can be advanced against it. In our own Beaver County there have been complaints against the Board of Education Ed-ucation policies caused, mainly, because the problems of the Board of Education were not clearly understood by the school patrons. Newspapermen News-papermen are dedicated to informing the public, particularly as to how their tax money is being handled. A newspaperman serving as a member of the Board of Education would have a dual obligation ... as a member mem-ber of the Board, to serve the school patrons of the county to the best of his ability, with integrity and sincerity. As a newspaperman, to serve the public AND the Board of Education by factually informing the readers of his newspaper as to the programs, plans, aims, policies - and problems -of the Board of Education. No newspaperman worthy of the respect of his fellow publishers could or would do otherwise.
