Show NATIONAL, STATE AMERICAN LEGION URGE SUPPORT OF 'SURVIVAL' AMENDMENT BY J. LLOYD WIGNALL Nat'l. Field Representative, The American Legion CONTINUITY OF GOVERNMENT: CONSTITUTIONAL CONSTITUTION-AL AMENDMENT NO. 1, WILL BE ON THE UTAH BALLOT NOV. 8, 1960. The American Legion supports a favorable vote for this Amendment. Yes, The American Legion knows that, in event of nuclear nu-clear war, the nation will win which has the greatest ability to bounce back with maximum speed. Bouncing back involves many factors. Let's consider two. The first is the temporary ability of the individual to provide for himself without benefit ben-efit of government. In fact, without benefit of anything except his own resources, his own two hands and ingenuity. The military can't help. They will be busy fighting a war, a war on America's homeland. Then too, consider that in view I of the enormous needs of the civilians the I supplies of the military would not cover even a portion of the full needs. The second is a speedy restoration of wiriviiT government. Temporarily taking care of oneself sounds easy, but is it? Cooking without fuel, lights without electricity, elec-tricity, food without stores, checks without banks, water with dry faucets, injury without doctors and control without policemen po-licemen are a few things that would test the best of us. The only thing that will shorten the period of time required re-quired to restore vital government functions is to have it decided prior to the emergency who takes over for who. No elections can be held after the bomb explodes. Vote YES for Amendment No. 1. |
