Show Beaver Forms Civil Defense Organization Rmembershipv ETH E ETH TH At a special meeting Wednesday Wed-nesday evening the Beaver City Council received Leonard A. Higgins, Utah State Director of Civil Defense, and after hearing Mr. Higgins' report on the need for a civil defense organization in Beaver, Mayor Martell East-on East-on appointed committee heads to direct activities of the various vari-ous Civil Defense activities. Mayor Easton emphasized that the Beaver City Civil Defense unit will work in conjunction with the county organization. "We now realize," the Beaver mayor said, "that there has been a serious gap in the state Civil Defense organization, with Beaver, a county seat in a strategic stra-tegic area, having no Civil Defense De-fense unit to work with other units in the state. This gap has now been filled, and with the cooperation o'f the citizens of Beaver we will have a well-organized, well-organized, properly functioning function-ing Civil Defense unit to act in case of disaster. Sam Hickman, public relations rela-tions director, announced that a public mass meeting will be called in the very near future, to explain to the general public pub-lic the functions of the organization, organ-ization, outline plans, and solicit so-licit public support. In addition to Mayor Easton, who will be Beaver City director, direct-or, and Mr. Hickman, others named to head the committees are: R. R. Thomas, public welfare, wel-fare, Ross Smith, communications: communica-tions: Paul Nielsen, health and medicine; Pearl Thompson, women's wo-men's activities, and Dick Oak-den, Oak-den, aviation. |
