Show 9 2 But 0 Jtaaia t I J ilLLmA By STEVt.' WILLIAMS The Federal Government could pay off Iho national d:bt if it could collect about $1600 from every man, woman wom-an and child in the country. For lhe average man with a wife and two children, this would mean $6400. Quite a few complaints from Milford basketball fans because the band and pep club weren't performing as units at the State Class U tourney last weekend. ' The Utah High School Activ ities Assn requested that schools NOT take their bands, and not take pep clubs as groups. Seems most of the northern schools, with large bands and large pep groups,- initiated the request, and the U S II A A approved, because of the unwicldiness of the large groups, and because of the damage that has resulted to band instruments in transporting transport-ing thorn to and from the tournament. tourn-ament. All but two schools complied with the U S H A A suggestion, and we understand that next year it will probably be an order or-der instead of a request. Don't know whether we agree or not. Band instruments can be transported without damage, and as far as the size of the . student rooters is concerned, the more the better- It's a student activity, and we think all students stu-dents who wish to attend should be permitted to have seating at the student rate, and if it takes the entire fieldhouse, wonderful! We also hear that even the Utah State Senators and Legislators Legis-lators are "burned up" over the U S II A A ban on radio broadcasting. broad-casting. The organization didn't actually actu-ally ban the broadcasting, but according 1o a spokesman for a Southern Utah radio station, the U S H A A demanded a rakeoff of $25 for each game that was broadcast, and the broadcasters refused to pay the "tribute." We think this should be looked into. Everyone that could get there attended the games, and we don't think broadcasting would have hurt the gate a bit. Even so, there's thousands of non-metropolitan school patrons who were interested, inter-ested, and we think they should have been privileged to hear a play-by-play. Hear rumors Ray Kizer may seek the Democratic nomination for Representative in Congress, opposing incumbent Republican Henry Aldous Dixon.. Wc- tli ink Ray would make a good Congressman, and one thing is sure he'd be pressing for more economy in our Federal Fed-eral government. Ray showed the folks in Milford, Mil-ford, with his street oiling, how to do a lot with darned little cash. Mountain States is going colorful! col-orful! New phone books are out for Southern Utah, with a beautiful cover depicting Southern Utah scenes in color. SUZY SAYS: Mayor Kizer tried hard enough but never did win ihs Mayor's Race at lhe Milford 49ers. Maybe he figures he'll do better in the political race. |
