Show O.M UU1 i A i" UO 1 Congratulations V LI to the 1990- 1991 recipients of The Signpost Athletes of the Year Jaime Martin and Elizabeth Kealamakia Quarterback named as Male Athlete of the Year By Scott D. Summers Sports Editor of The Signpost The Signpost has named Jamie Martin the male athlete of the year for his outstanding efforts as the WSU football team quarterback. Martin's nationally acclaimed total offense effort and his team leadership qualities led him this award. Martin completed 256 of his 428 passes for 3,700 passing yards and 23 touchdowns. He was named First Team AU-American by The Sports Network, and second team Ail-American by Kodak, Walter Camp and The Associated Press. He was also named First Team All-Big Sky. Martin was the runner up in the Walter Payton Trophy Balloting, which is equivalent to the Heisman Trophy for division 1AA. Even with the outstanding success Jamie has had, he doesn't think he's done nearly enough for the team. "I have accomplished things for myself, but I haven't accomplished anything for the team," said Martin. "I want our team to win and go on to win the Big Sky Championship."At the end of last year's season, the team stood at 5-6, and lost a few games due to the lack of a field goal (See MARTIN page 12) Kealamakia selected as Female Athlete of the Year By Jennifer Pratt Staff writer of The Signpost Elizabeth Kealamakia has been selected as The Signpost Woman Athlete of the Year for the 1990 -1991 school year. Kealamakia is a sophomore from Malad, Idaho and has been running and setting records for Weber State for the past two years. Kealamakia focuses on three main events, the 200 meter, the 400 meter and the triple jump. During her time at WSU she has set new records both in individual school, indoor and outdoor meets. She set a new school record in the 200 meter with a time of 2452, in the 400 meter running it in 54:31 and the triple jump with a score of 39' 9.5". Although Kealamakia enjoys all the events she participates in, the 400 meter is her favorite. "It's more of a challenge, a harder race. It takes more endurance and strength, and I try to push myself to see how fast I can go," said Kealamakia. (See Kealamakia page 12) Lrd'LzjlHJ UULjUUjJ 1 3 off all luggage .
