This year, major renovation has been done on the interior to accommodate isitors and those who work in the building. The first ph.ise of the Union Building's $-150,000 remodeling project began in November and was completed for the Weber State University party that was held on December 31, I'M). The remodeling projivt committee was chaired by Union Building Facilities Manager Joly Walker. "It is my responsibility to ensure that the environment in this building is as pleasant and safe as possible," Walker said. The funding for the renovations came from two sources; the Capital Repair and Replacement TP ' T and the Union BuildingCarry-Forward budget. The remodeling projec t originally began in April, I'M) when Murdock Business Design was selected as the designer. The estimate! cost of the proposal was $1,(XX),IXX). Remodeling included a new seUvtion of wallcoverings, furni-. ture, window covering and paint. The turquoise-colored furniture in the west wing replaced the original furniture from the sond phase of the building opened in 19. The orange-colored carpel was replaced with gray specked carpeting and a non-slip tile that is patterntsJ to serve as a sidewalk throughout the main level in the building. The Union Building Adviviry Board divided to eliminate eating or drinking in the common an'as. "We'd like to mv the stuff last as long as possible," Walker said. While the new rules don't appear to be popular with many students, Walker said it was for the best. "Students, more than anyone on this campus, should care, protect and preserve thisbuilding' he said. Plans this summer include completion of the renovation of the Gallery. "I feel the project is incomplete," Walker said, "in that nothing has been done in the Callery. I hope that we will be able to complete that project this coming summer." AY 1 .4 .
