"This year has been a very important one in the history of Weber State," Myers said. "For 101 years, there has been a sense of pride of those who are closely related to the institution, but outsiders have never really felt the pride - until now," he said. "We're no longer just a college." "Many people are coming back to Weber State," Myers said. "The community has come to accept us as a major institution and they are wanting to benefit from it." Myers attributes some of the rebirth in interest to Weber State to the Metropolitan University system of style. University: and Achievements "People are seeing that Weber State is offering what they need to upgrade their education, or to start a new profession. 'The university is acting as a vehicle for people to improve themselves," he said. 'The administration is doing their best to adapt to the needs of non-traditional students by offering night, off-campus and continuing education classes to accommodate these new students." "The Institutional Council and the administration is constantly aware of the fact that while we grow in the diversity of Weber State, the focus will always be on Jim Sowdey The Signpost theimportanceof offering a quality education to all students through a positive educational experience, this means both academically and socially," Myers said. Mr. Myers wife Gloria attended Weber College in the early 1950's and came back to Weber State College a few years ago to receive a bachelor's degree in psychology.Myers' aside from being proud of his wife and her abilities, is proud that he is associated with a university that welcomes non-traditional students back to the educational environment at Utah's new university. |
