Show Out-of-State Hunters Checking Out With High Percentage of Deer 'Very Spotted' Hunting Reported By Most Washington Co. Nimrods With 1664 out-of-state hunters checking out with 1944 deer, indications in-dications are that the majority of non-resident hunters are going to have some meat to show for their deer hunting efforts this year. These figures were released this morning by S. M. Clark, state warden, who is checking the hunters hunt-ers through at the Santa Clara checking station. A division of the deer checked through show that 955 were docs and 989 were bucks. It is pointed out that this is all of the hunters who have checked out and that many of these undoubtedly hunted on the other districts farther north and not on the Dixie forest. A general survey of the local hunters seems to' indicate that some have been very lucky while others declare that they didn't even see a deer, let alone a chance to shoot at one. Most local hunters express the opinion that the deer herd has been greatly reduced with the heavy "takes" in the past years and that "they just aren't there anymore". Fish and Game officials point out that it is impossible to determine de-termine at this time just what the final figures will show, since there is still several days left in the hunt. They also call attention to the fact that the storms on top of Pine Valley mountain should drive many of the deer to lower altitudes where most of the hunting hunt-ing is being done. |
